Textiles & Textures

True coziness is often found in the weight of an object. Replace thin, lightweight throws with heavyweight natural textiles. A chunky-knit wool blanket or a weighted linen bedspread provides a physical sense of security. These materials don't just look warm; they have a structural integrity that invites touch. At the heart of a high-end winter interior is the cashmere throw. Our favourite brand is Johnstons of Elgin who arguably make the finest cashmere in the UK. 

We adore this bright blue cashmere throw, which works with a multitude of interior styles and is perfect for a Netflix night.

Cushions are our favourite accessory to add depth to interiors; layer deep pile velvet cushions or alpaca weaves, and for an even more indulgent experience contrast with curly sheepskin or butter soft suede for added texture and pattern.

Rugs are another way to add warmth and cosiness to any interior.  There are some amazing, sustainable and innovative companies out there that make the most exquisite and unique rugs, perfect for cosy interiors. 

Studio Strata make the most beautiful mohair rugs. Sandra works with artisans all over the world and has homed in on different textures and techniques that add interest and intrigue to the rugs.

In gorgeous earthy tones, our favourite rug is the Studio Strata carved mohair design. The beautifully soft premium mohair is ethically sourced, woven by skilled artisans and complements so many interiors.

Accessories & Accents

At Howark, we love using interesting trays and vessels as part of our interior design projects. Changing the accessories in a room can really change the atmosphere. We sometimes use them to add an injection of colour to a more neutral space, or a more contemporary shape to lift a more traditional scheme. 

We love Huh Myoung Wook’s trays, available on Abask. Their vibrant colours and gorgeous textural sheen make them perfect for setting on top of an ottoman, or as a centrepiece on a dining table. We quite want this yellow one for ourselves.

Diptyque candles are an absolute classic and our favourite seasonal scent is the timeless Thé. They are perfect for the coffee table where the gentle flicker of light provides a soothing focal point. The ultimate cosy Winter interior design accessory.
